The new year is approaching at a fast pace. What will you achieve?
We all have dreams and ambitions, but how we achieve them is what distinguishes us. Here are three easy steps to help you plan for success in the following year: The new year is approaching at an incredible rate. What will you achieve?
Realistic Objectives: The first step is to plan backwards: begin with the end in mind. Most importantly, keep the goal in perspective. I'm not saying you shouldn't set large goals; I'm just saying you should be realistic about WHAT you want to do and WHEN you'll be able to accomplish it. Consider how you'd feel if you didn't exercise on a regular basis and ate poorly. You might want to amend that to "Everyday this year, I'm going to exercise and eat salads." Doesn't it seem a little far-fetched?
Rather, employ a more progressive approach, which is more likely to succeed. "I'm going to start exercising and eating properly at least two days a week, then gradually increase this as the weeks go on," is a better strategy. You'll be more likely to stick to your goals if you take small steps toward them.
Resources:
Ask yourself, "What resources would I require to get there?" Is it possible to hire someone in your company? Alternatively, you might hire a nanny/babysitter for your child(ren) so that you have more time throughout the day. Is it possible that you should attend more networking events in order to expand your social circle? It could also mean putting money into certain apps, websites, or marketing platforms. You'll need to get rid of or add resources to help you reach to the next level in order to advance. Knowing WHAT you want (#1 the realistic objective) and WHO will help you get there (#2 the resources) is an important part of the planning process.
Consistency:
Though it comes last, consistency is the most critical. How consistent you are will determine the fate of your following year. You can like this post, set goals, and even get the resources you need, but you won't achieve your objectives until you take CONSISTENT action. When you are consistent, you will achieve the results you want. It has to become a habit!
Tip: If you struggle with consistency, I recommend reading “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. This book breaks down the science of how habits are formed and how you can create or break them.
Investing in an expert or joining a group mastermind program in the area of my goals is another tip I've taken and found useful. Hire a personal trainer, for example, if you want to work out every day but find it difficult to get to the gym. You will show up on a daily basis if you invest money and effort. Hire a coach or join a group membership if you wish to advance in your career. Not only will you be surrounded by like-minded people, but they will also hold you accountable. When it comes to developing consistency, the hardest part is getting started. When you have an expert or a group of individuals to drive you toward your goal, you will achieve it much more quickly.
